Biloxi Information
About Biloxi
The gorgeous beaches of the Gulf Coast meet Southern charm and style in the city of Biloxi, Mississippi. This is a fantastic vacation destination for a short or long term stay, and there’s more to Biloxi than just the beach. With attractions like great fishing, casinos, art museums, highly-rated restaurants, a farmer’s market, and historic homes, Biloxi has something for everyone.
Things to do in Biloxi
The 27 mile-long Mississippi Coast is the longest man-made beach in the world, and certainly one of the most beautiful. With miles of white sand sprinkled with yellow umbrellas, the warm water is shallow enough for children to play in. When you’re not enjoying the sun, sand, and water, you can visit one of Biloxi’s many museums, such as the Marine Education Center, the NASA Museum, the Walter Anderson Museum of Art, or the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art. If you are interested in the history of Mississippi, particularly in the Civil War era, be sure to visit Beauvoir, the estate that was home to Jefferson Davis, the former President of the Confederacy. Nightlife lovers will enjoy the casinos of Beau Rivage and Harrah’s Gulf Coast, located right on the beach, while foodies will love Half Shell Oyster House, Mary Mahoney’s Old French House, thirty-two, and Shaggy’s Beach Bar and Grill. If you’d like to try local produce, the farmer’s market is open to the public on Tuesday and Thursday evenings on Howard Avenue.
Day trips from Biloxi
Shoppers will love the shops in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, located only ten minutes east of Biloxi over a bridge. Or head a half hour west to Gulfport to relax at Jones Park Splash Pad and Playground. Consider renting a jet ski or kayak and going out on the water, or going on a half day fishing trip with one of many charter companies in the area. A swamp tour is a fun way to see alligators and other swamp wildlife...without getting too close! There are some great tour operators in Pensacola, Florida, just under two hours away. Pensacola also has great beaches that are worth a visit. Destin, an hour further east of Pensacola, is another gorgeous beach destination that will have you taking out your camera for more and more pictures.
Biloxi Accommodation
Stay as close to the beach as possible when you are visiting Biloxi so that you can maximize your time near the water! First Street, Howard Avenue, and Main Street are good places to look. You can also consider staying across the bridge in Ocean Springs, which is a quick drive from Biloxi and also has beaches of its own. Or stay on the Back Bay of Biloxi, which also offers beautiful views of the water.
Transportation in Biloxi
To get from beach to beach easily, it is probably best to rent a car, which you can do at the Hard Rock Resort and Casino and the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino. Alternatively, you can use the Mississippi Gulf Coast Casino Hopper to transport you safely between casinos, or the Coast Transit Authority, the region’s public bus service that provides routes between Ocean Springs, Biloxi, and Gulfport.
