For the easiest walking to Silver Beach County Park and the nearby shops and restaurants, try to stay near Main Street, State Street, and Lake Boulevard. However, if you are looking for a quieter getaway, you can stay out of town along the shores of Lake Michigan and come to St. Joseph during the day. Most hotels in St. Joseph are located along Main Street.

There is an Amtrak train station in St. Joseph, right downtown at Silver Beach County Park, and it takes the train just over an hour and a half to get there from Chicago. This is an easy way to get to the city if you prefer not to rent a car. The St. Joseph County Public Transportation Authority offers a transit service to anyone in the area as long as you call in advance. It is recommended that you call 24 hours in advance to schedule a pickup. You can also easily rent a car in St. Joseph.
