At the village’s picturesque beach called Middle Village Park, the lack of crowds on the coastline makes it an ideal spot for swimming and sunbathing. In terms of historical points of interest, the first building in the village was a Jesuit Mission that was constructed in the early 1800s. A fire eventually destroyed the original structure, but Native Americans rebuilt it during the late 1800s. Presently, the building is known as St. Ignatius Church where it is open to the public for mass on the weekends in the summertime. In proximity to the church is the historic Middle Village Cemetery where the graves of Native Americans from the Odawa tribe are marked by white crosses.

Middle Village is adjacent to the Michigan highway called M-119 which provides a gorgeous path that runs along the Little Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan shorelines. Along M-119 is the Scenic Heritage Route known as the “Tunnel of Trees.” True to its name, the Tunnel of Trees features long rows of tall trees that seem to form a tunnel shape. Heading south on the highway with about a half an hour’s drive leads to the city of Harbor Springs. The community is renowned for its summer resorts, beach, and historic attractions. On the Harbor Point peninsula, there is a unique lighthouse with a fog bell called the Little Traverse Lighthouse. Additionally, Harbor Springs is home to unusual houses boasting innovative architectural designs such as the Douglas House which was lauded by the American Institute of Architects as well as the hexagonal-shaped house that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Situated north of Middle Village with around half an hour’s drive is Cross Village, a township with a welcoming small town charm. It has a significant Native American population and historical ties. Cross Village also boasts the famed Leggs Inn, a 1920s restaurant built in stone that specializes in serving authentic Polish cuisine.
