About Marco Island
Marco Island is the largest and only developed land in Florida’s Ten Thousand Islands and is a short ride from the beautiful Florida’s Everglades City and Naples, Florida. Marco Island is known for its luxury resorts, beautiful beaches, and relatively untouched parks. Its warm beaches are its main attraction as well as Collier Seminole State Park which allows for camping, canoeing, fishing, boating, and picnics. Visits can walk along the sandy shoreline or can opt for jet skiing along the Florida Gulf Coast.
What to do in Marco Island
Marco Island has an array of activities that visitors can do including taking advantage of one Collier County’s historical museums that is located on the island. Established in 1978, the Collier County Museums offers a rich sampling of the people, places, and events of Southwest Florida. The current exhibition of the museum is called “Wild and Remote: Photographing South Florida by Canoe” which is a series of photography of canoeing and camping in the Florida Everglades. Visitors can also enjoy one of Florida’s most beautiful natural landscapes, Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park which offers numerous hiking trails, kayak and canoe tours, and an 11 mile stretch of Jane’s Scenic Drive. The State Park contains the largest stand of native royal palms and the largest concentration and variety of epiphytic orchids in North America. Some other highlights of the island includes boat tours, Keewaydin Island, Mackle Park, South Marco Beach, Tigertail Beach, Marco Island Historical Museum, and the Marco Island Farmer’s Market. Popular dining establishments on Marco Island include Quinn’s on the Beach, Kurrents, Maia, 400 Pazzi’s, and Tropik’s Restaurant.
Marco Island Day Trips
Located about half an hour by vehicle, Naples has an array of activities making it one of the premier cities of Florida’s Golden Coast. The most popular sites to visit include the Naples Zoo, Naples Botanical Garden, Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park, Naples Museum of Art, and Collier-Seminole State Park. Located approximately four hours from Marco Island is Tampa which is the largest city on Florida’s Golden Coast with a population of about 350,000 residents. The popular things to do in Tampa include Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, Florida Aquarium, Lowry Park Zoo, Museum of Science & Industry, Adventure Island, and Glazer Children’s Museum. For those that want to enjoy more energy, Miami is only approximately two hours away by vehicle and the city has a plethora of things to do which includes Miami Beach, Miami Seaquarium, Miami Zoo, Villa Vizcaya, Bayfront Park, and Jungle Island. Located approximately two and a half hours from Marco Island is West Palm Beach which is a beach front city in South Florida. Some of the more popular things to do at West Palm Beach include Palm Beach Zoo, Norton Museum of Art, South Florida Science Center and Aquarium, Mounts Botanical Garden, and CityPlace.
