Hialeah Information

About Hialeah

Just outside of Miami is the City of Hialeah, which means, “pretty prairie.” When first settled, Hialeah was just a beautiful prairie between the ocean and the Everglades, but now it is a city with a myriad of attractions.

Things to Do in Hialeah

This place is definitely interesting and full of surprises. A definite must-see is the Hialeah Park Racing & Casino. The track was first opened as a greyhound track in 1922 and a casino was added to the complex in 2013. You might remember this location from movies such as The Godfather: Part II and The Champ. Maybe going to the races isn’t for you, so instead go play some rounds of golf at Country Club of Miami or Shula’s Golf Club. Or maybe go for a picnic at the Amelia Earhart Park. For some great shopping, check out Westland Mall. For antiques, though, you must go to Cherry Picked Vintage & Antiques Market. You never know what treasure you may find! If you’ve brought the kids or you’re a kid at heart, stop by the Skateboard Supercross for something fun and different. When it’s time to eat, here are some suggestions of places to try: Franky’s Deli Warehouse, El Rinconcito Peruano, Green Papaya, Breadman Miami, and Molina’s Ranch Restaurant.

Hialeah Day Trips

If you want to getaway for just the day then your options are essentially limitless when Hialeah is your starting point. You can head to Miami and South Beach for some fun in the sun and great food along the waterfront. Fort Lauderdale is just a bit further north and makes an amazing destination with all kinds of restaurants and beach activities. There is of course Disney World and Universal, which is a must when traveling with the family. But if none of this appeals to you then consider driving south to one of the Florida Keys. Key Largo is only an hour away by car or keep driving all the way to Key West for the famous key lime pie! Also you can’t forget to take a day and tour the Everglades. There are so many different animal and plant species that no matter how many times you’ve been it’s always like a new experience.

Hialeah Accommodations

When staying in and near Hialeah, there are definitely a variety of hotels to choose from. However, if staying in a hotel doesn’t appeal to you then consider a vacation rental. Whether it’s a home or condo or apartment, there will be the perfect fit to suit your needs. If you’re traveling with a large group, it will probably be in your best interest to rent a house. This way everyone gets his/her own room and privacy and usually at a lower rate compared to a hotel.

Transportation in Hialeah

Most likely you will fly into the Miami International Airport, in which case you could take an airport shuttle/taxi to your vacation residence. However, if you plan to do a lot of exploring outside of Hialeah then you should rent a car. There are also rideshare services.
