Things to do in Franklintown
Head down to the Franklintown Farmer’s Market and explore handmade gifts, fresh produce, and live entertainment by some local bands. The market takes place every Saturday from 9am-1pm. Many local businesses in Franklintown offer tours of the Amelia River. The scenery is reason alone to hop aboard, but some even offer BYOB sunset cruises so you’re in for a fun trip either way. Fernandina Beach is the place to go if you want to relax and spend some time in the sun. Small waves and wide sandy beaches will create the perfect atmosphere for an afternoon of tranquility. Bikers will love the paved Timucuan Trail bike path that connects the northern six-mile segment to Peters Point Park with the George Crady Fishing Bridge. Take a ride south or north and explore the park! Dining in Franklintown can be a treat in and of itself. Falcon’s Nest, a family-friendly pub is inside the Omni resort, is the place to go for oysters, a burger, or an ice cold beer. The restaurant can get a little crowded, so call ahead before venturing over. Sunrise Café is, arguably, the best brunch in all of Amelia Island. Their buffet offers fresh fruit, made-to-order omelets, waffles, and egg white frittatas, among other things. With an ocean view, this place really can’t be beat! If you really want to treat yourself, stop in at Marche Burette for lunch. This French inspired market and deli offers delectable foods like a shrimp salad sandwich, tuna melt, or a goat cheese, red pepper, and artichoke salad. Enjoy the warm breeze on their outdoor patio as you cow down on some delicious food.

At just a 45-minute drive, Jacksonville is just the place to go on a day trip. The Jacksonville Museum of History and Science is a must-visit; they’re Anne Frank exhibit celebrates the life of the young girl and provides historical context and artifacts as resources. The Planetarium in the museum is one of the largest single-lens planetariums in the country and live presentations about deep space exploration and the planet take place daily. The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens offers a beautiful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Explore the nearly 5,000 works of art spanning from 2100 B.C. through the 21st Century. Head outside and see the riverfront gardens which overlook the St. John’s River. A former estate with a deep history, the plantation is part of the Timucuan Ecological and Historical Preserve. Transportation in Franklintown
