Things to Do in Cocoa
A visit to the historic Cocoa Village is a must for any visitor. This is the downtown part of the City of Cocoa, and was settled in the mid-1800s. It is now one of the most popular attractions as a premier shopping and entertainment areas with tree-lined streets, restaurants, and cute shops. Places to check out here include the historic Cocoa Village Playhouse, the Florida Historical Society, the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse, and a cruise out of the Cocoa Village Marina along the beautiful Indian River. Spend an afternoon at the Brevard Museum of History and Natural Science, take a learning lesson at the Eastern Florida State College Planetarium and Observatory, walk around Riverfront Park, and visit the historic Porcher House, which features 20th century classical revival architecture.
Day Trips Near Cocoa
Some of the most popular places to visit that are nearby include the Orlando theme parks Disney World, Sea World and Universal Studios, which are approximately an hour away. The Kennedy Space Center is a half hour north of Cocoa and features NASA’s launch complex, the astronaut hall of fame, and you can sometimes catch a rocket being launched. The city of Cocoa is just 20 minutes away from the popular Cocoa Beach area located along Florida’s Space Coast, which has an endless array of beach attractions for visitors looking to relax and spend some time by the water.
The main type of housing in Cocoa are single and split-level single family homes in residential neighborhoods that are conveniently an hour away from most major attractions and destinations. One of the best places to stay in is in downtown Cocoa Village, which is where all of the shops, restaurants and many attractions are located. Other good neighborhoods to rent a home in include Fern Meadows, which has lots of nicer houses available, along with Cocoa Hills, Cocoa Pines and Indian Hills.
Transportation in Cocoa
A rental car is the most convenient way to get around Cocoa and to surrounding areas, but there are also several methods of public transportation that are readily available as well. Taxis are also available, and the Space Coast Area Transit provides public transportation throughout the area with fixed-route bus systems, including stops at major shopping centers, university, hospitals and government centers. There is also a trolley service that runs in nearby Cocoa Beach, which is a fun way to see the town and runs Monday through Saturday from 7am to 9pm, and Sunday from 8am to 5pm.
