About Cape Coral

Located on the Gulf Coast near Fort Myers, Cape Coral has more than just a fantastic temperate climate and beautiful beaches: the area is also known for its nature preserves, great golf courses, water sports, and scenic canals. When you’re not enjoying the beauty of white sand and bright blue water, you can head to the local farmer’s market to try the area’s best fresh produce, see a butterfly garden, or relax at the Yacht Club, which is open to the community and has a great, local vibe.

Things to Do in Cape Coral

The Cape Coral Yacht Club is a great place to start your trip. The most popular beach in the area is located right next to it, and there is a fun public pool and fishing dock that you can also enjoy. Just south of Cape Coral Parkway, Four Freedoms Park is a great beach area with a playground and barbecue grills. When you’re ready for a break from the sun and sand, head to the Tom Allen Memorial Butterfly Garden, where you can see colorful native butterfly species. The Southwest Florida Military Museum is another major attraction in the area, showcasing U.S. military history from the Revolutionary War to today. Make sure to visit the Cape Coral Farmer’s Market on Saturdays to see local handcrafted items and try locally grown produce, and head to The Boathouse at the Yacht Club for a sunset cocktail on the water. For golf lovers, Royal Tee golf club and Palmetto Pine Country Club are two great nearby options.

Cape Coral Day Trips

Spend a morning or afternoon at Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve, which covers over 350 acres in the city. With marshes and a network of rivers, this is a great place to kayak and explore. There are walking trails as well, so you can stroll through the unique trees in the preserve and see the abundant wildlife. The preserve rents kayaks, so don’t worry if you don’t have one. Scuba Quest in Cape Coral is a great dive shop that will lead you on excursions to local dive sites (including a shipwreck!) Definitely consider taking a guided boat tour with one of many companies in the area to see the sunrise over the Gulf of Mexico.

Cape Coral Accommodation

For easy access to the beach, stay close to the Yacht Club - but you won’t be disappointed if you stay near one of the city’s many canals or along the Caloosahatchee River instead. Cape Coral Parkway, especially near the intersection with Coronado Avenue, has a number of fantastic restaurants and is the center of the action. For a quieter experience, stay closer to the large Matlacha Pass Aquatic Preserve close to El Dorado Parkway W.

Cape Coral Transportation

Lee County offers the LeeTran bus service, but the stops can be few and far between, so it is best to plan to rent a car during your trip. You can also rent a bicycle to ride around the city while you are there. If you are traveling with older companions, the Cape Coral Mini-Bus service offers transportation for $12 per round trip for the elderly.
