Tucked in the mountains only 29 miles west of Denver, Colorado, lies Evergreen, a welcoming escape from Denver's big city bustle. Surrounded by thousands of acres of land in the Denver Mountain Parks, Evergreen is named after what else? The alpine meadows and brilliant wildflowers? Or the evergreen trees! Evergreen was originally a Ute and Arapaho hunting ground until settlers came around 1860. It was the perfect place for ranches and farms to feed nearby Denver, and the forests supplied the city with lumber. People quickly recognized its potentially for weekend getaways, and celebrities Greta Garbo and Teddy Roosevelt frequented the city's lush resorts. Today, Evergreen is the perfect place for outdoor activities, shopping, culture, and fine dining.
