About Sea Ranch

Sea Ranch is a popular vacation community located along the rugged Northern California coastline in the lush Sonoma County. Situated about 100 miles north of San Francisco and 120 miles west of the state capitol, the breathtaking beaches of Sea Ranch are reached by the famous State Route 1/Pacific Coast Highway. Historically occupied by the indigenous Pomo people, who were sustained by kelp and shellfish, it has since been developed with an eye on preservation of the natural landscape beauty. Sheep graze the fields and buildings are designed for optimal cohesion with the foggy cliffside terrain. Sea Ranch is a top choice for travelers looking to kickback and rejuvenate seaside.

Things To Do in Sea Ranch

Explore miles of walking trails along the rocky bluffs and through the cypress trees. Panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean might even yield a whale sighting or two! There are also 6 public access trails that connect the PCH with the beaches. Picnic in the sand and wade into the tide pools for a day of exploration. A trail called Walk on the Beach connects to the 3-mile (one-way) Bluff Top Trail in the Gualala Point Regional Park (pronounced “wa-LA-la”). The Gualala River also runs near the trail and offers seasonal fishing opportunities. You can BBQ near picnic tables, bike, kayak, or canoe in the expansive 195-acre park. Pay a visit to Fort Ross State Historic Park, home to the Rotchev House and other Russian-inspired buildings. You can set up a comprehensive tour with the Fort Ross Conservancy. Or consider taking the day in your own hands with wine-tasting the famous Sonoma Coast. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, and Petite Sirah are regional favorites. The wineries are perched high for stunning views of the vineyards and hilly grape-covered environment. Visit the fantastical Sea Ranch Chapel, an architectural gem hidden in a wooded meadow off the Highway. The non-denominational chapel is open to the public, who can appreciate the local stone, redwood exterior, and copper accented design that’s meant to look like a swelling wave. The historical logging town of Gualala is your best bet for local amenities. Plan ahead for everything to close by 8pm. Make a reservation for Black Point Grill at Sea Ranch Lodge for fresh and local cuisine. Wrap up your days near the water for sunset and be sure to catch the starry night sky - there’s minimal light-pollution in the area!
