Carmel Valley Information
About Carmel Valley
Renowned for its abundance of fine wineries and tasting rooms, Carmel Valley Village (also called Carmel Valley) is a pastoral census-designated place nestled in California’s Monterey County. Carmel Valley has a warm Mediterranean climate and seldom experiences particularly hot summers. Amid wondrous natural scenery and rolling hills, Carmel Valley is a favored destination amongst wine enthusiasts and those who adore the great outdoors.
Things to do in Carmel Valley
As mentioned, Carmel Valley boasts numerous wine tasting rooms and bars where visitors can easily access on foot or via tour bus. Popular places to sample wine include Cima Collina, Bernardus Winery, and Holman Ranch Vineyards. Patrons can expect spacious tasting rooms staffed by friendly, knowledgeable winemakers and hosts. Carmel Valley is also home to plenty of golf courses. The Carmel Valley Ranch as well as the Golf Club at Quail Lodge both feature expansive courses to delight any avid or casual golf player. As for other outdoorsy recreation, Garland Ranch Regional Park and Cachagua Community Park offer picturesque hiking trails to visitors. The former allows dogs on its premises and has off-leash areas for canines to run and play. The latter park has a playground, baseball field, and picnic tables to accommodate a pleasant family outing.
Day trips from Carmel Valley
Situated southward from Carmel Valley with about an hour’s drive is Big Sur. Boasting a rugged coastline and impressive range from the Santa Lucia Mountains, this seaside city offers long, rustic beaches protected from being developed and urbanized. These beaches are open to the public for walking along the coastline, but they are not suitable for swimming due to the frigid and treacherous surf. Accordingly, Big Sur is known for its outstanding natural beauty and outdoor activities such as hiking and camping at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. Driving around half an hour northwest from Carmel Valley would lead to the small coastal community of Seaside. True to its name, Seaside is located near spectacular beaches such as Monterey State Beach and an eponymous beach. The former is the larger of the two beaches and allows paragliding and surf fishing in some areas. Seaside State Beach offers sea glass, sand dunes, and a quiet ambiance as it tends not to be overly crowded.
Carmel Valley accommodations
Featuring impressive natural views and a serene environment, vacation rentals at Carmel Valley serve as getaways from the fast-paced bustle of urban areas. Offering accommodations such as elegant chateaus to charming cottages to secluded cabins in the midst of peaceful wilderness, Carmel Valley has an inviting home away from home for every need.
Transportation in Carmel Valley
While most wineries and vineyards are within walking distance from popular accommodations, the Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) provides the Grapevine Express (bus 24) which makes a stop at numerous wineries, in case visitors choose not to trek on foot. Otherwise, Carmel Valley is laid out in a way that it is convenient to walk to most attractions. However, it is advantageous to drive a car to destinations located away from the wineries.
