Things to do in Guntersville
In Guntersville, it’s all about the water, where you can leave the world behind at the largest lake in expansive Alabama. Lake Guntersville State Park has all kinds of trails and hiking paths that cover moderate to difficult ground over 36 miles. Go hiking, biking, or even horseback riding. The Old Still Path, Moonshine Trail, and Cave Trail are some for you to try. The State Park also has camping spots, and even offers zip-lining (courtesy of Screaming Eagle). Lake Guntersville has 900 miles of shoreline and pans 69,000 acres, making it an ideal place for different water sports and fishing. It is known for its bass fishing especially and is great for canoeing, water skiing, and more. Explore the city’s unique history by seeing all the Native American artifacts and gemstones at the Guntersville Museum & Cultural Center, observe the talented performances at the Whole Backstage Theatre, and rent everything from canoes and pontoons to flat bottom fishing boats at Town Creek Fishing Center. Gunter’s Landing Golf Course is a great place to go hit the green, while the Mountain Lake Water Recreation offers special bat cave tours. Check out vintage planes on display at the Homer B. The capital of Alabama, Birmingham, is an hour and a half south of Guntersville by car. The town of Huntsville is 44 minutes northeast of Guntersville and is home to the United States Space Camp, Madison County Nature Trail, and more.
