Trondheim Information
About Trondheim
Trondheim is a large municipality in Norway, on the southern shore of Trondheim Fjord at the mouth of the river called Nidelva. Nearly 200,000 people live there, making it the third-largest city in the country. Its history goes all the way back to the first century when Vikings used it as the King’s seat and the country’s capital. Olav Tryggvason, the King from 966 to 1000, named the city Nidaros, though it changed into its currently accepted name around the late Middle Ages. Today, Trondheim is known for its rich history, a vibrant higher education community, and proximity to natural beauty.
