Visit the Goldfields Mining Centre for a glimpse into the life and labor environment of early miners who worked along Central Otago’s Kawarau Gorge. Trace Cromwell's transformation after the construction of the Clyde Dam and creation of Lake Dunstan. Learn about the town's old business district, which now rests at the bottom of the lake. If you're visiting in the summer, the lake is an idyllic place to swim, fish, boat and play water sports. For winter travelers, the town is a short drive from a number of slopes for skiing and sledding. Stop by Highland's Motorsport Park if you're looking for activities for the entire family.
