Hawkes Bay Information

About Hawkes Bay

Hawkes Bay is a gorgeous region of New Zealand on the east coast of the North Island. With the major cities of Napier and Hastings taking the lead in culture, Hawke’s Bay mixes rural and city life fluidly. The green hilly coastal land sets the idyllic scene for wineries and growing produce, while the cities reap the benefits and give you a buzzing day out. Hawke’s Bay has it all from beaches to farms and city centres — find what’s right for you!

Things to do in Hawkes Bay

Visit the city of Napier in Hawkes Bay, known for its art deco architecture and art scene. This prized city brings a huge amount of tourism in for the Tremains Art Deco Festival, which happens every February. The weekend celebrates the history of Napier, and takes you back in time to the 1930s where art deco was all the rage. Hastings, the slightly more farm-focused city is known for its farmers markets and incredible produce. Try incredible meat, cheese, vegetable and of course, kiwi. The Hastings town clock, also from the 1930s, is a surreal icon of the city. Splash Planet in Hastings is one of the largest waterparks in the country, and is always a hit with the family.

Day trips from Hawkes Bay

Wineries make for great day trips in Hawkes Bay, as their beautiful grounds and expansive tours will have you relaxing in no time. In Hastings, there are a number of wineries for you to try. Craggy Range Vineyard is in a serene setting, while you might recognise Ngatarawa Wines from their iconic horse-head label. The Silent Estates Winery might be perfect for you if you’re planning a wedding, as it can host large functions. In Napier, the Mission Estate Winery is right outside of the city. The gorgeous grounds make for the perfect place to taste and learn about wine. Grab some bottles on your way out to take home!
