Vicenza Information

About Vicenza

In northeastern Italy, Vicenza is a gorgeous city for you to visit. Vicenza can be found in the Veneto region, with a load of history, culture, and great food to discover. Go back in time at the renaissance piazzas, and see some of the greatest examples of European art. With so many historical buildings to explore, you may not even have time to hit them all. Take your family to experience Italy and its culture, or head to the city for a romantic getaway.

Things to do in Vicenza

The unique Palladian style is what makes Vicenza famous. The Olympic Theater in Vicenza was designed by the Renaissance architect Palladio, and is one of the most incredible tourist attractions around. The stage seems huge, but it’s actually an illusion. There are other works by Palladio in Vicenza like the Palladian Villas of the Veneto, which are among the many local world heritage sites. The country houses are incredible, such as “La Rotonda,” which inspired Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello in Virginia. The Basilica Palladiana has a political history, and can be found in the Piazza dei Signori. The Piazza was the site of an old Roman forum. The gothic church of Santa Corona is revered for housing a relic — a thorn from the Crown of Thorns. There’s also a painting by Bellini above the altar, and the church is where Palladio was buried.

Day trips from Vicenza

Vicenza is halfway between Verona and Venice. Verona is under an hour away by train or car, and a great day trip to see this magical city. The setting of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, you can see “Juliet’s House” — a small balcony looking out onto a courtyard. Check out the Torre dei Lamberti (a medieval bell-tower) or the Piazza delle Erbe (a market). Venice is about 45 minutes away by train or car, and this aquatic city is a worthwhile trip. If you go at the right time you can see all the incredible art from around the world at the Venice Biennale. Otherwise, visit the Peggy Guggenheim museum for a load of modern art.

Vicenza accommodations

Tripping has a wide selection of rentals for you to pick from on your Italian vacation in Vicenza. Find a gorgeous little villa or apartment, and spend your mornings enjoying the sun from a balcony. Transportation in Vicenza

Vicenza has a train station just a short walk away from the Piazza Castello. The station is along the line that connects Milan to Venice, but there also lots of other destinations that you can head towards like Bologna or Padova. There is a bus service that serves the city, as well as buses that you can take further distances. While in Vicenza, enjoy the luxury of being able to get around on foot while visiting the attractions.
