About Vicenza
In northeastern Italy, Vicenza is a gorgeous city for you to visit. Vicenza can be found in the Veneto region, with a load of history, culture, and great food to discover. Things to do in Vicenza
The unique Palladian style is what makes Vicenza famous. The Olympic Theater in Vicenza was designed by the Renaissance architect Palladio, and is one of the most incredible tourist attractions around. The stage seems huge, but it’s actually an illusion. There are other works by Palladio in Vicenza like the Palladian Villas of the Veneto, which are among the many local world heritage sites. The country houses are incredible, such as “La Rotonda,” which inspired Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello in Virginia. The Basilica Palladiana has a political history, and can be found in the Piazza dei Signori. The Piazza was the site of an old Roman forum. The gothic church of Santa Corona is revered for housing a relic — a thorn from the Crown of Thorns. There’s also a painting by Bellini above the altar, and the church is where Palladio was buried.
Day trips from Vicenza
Vicenza is halfway between Verona and Venice. Verona is under an hour away by train or car, and a great day trip to see this magical city. The setting of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, you can see “Juliet’s House” — a small balcony looking out onto a courtyard. Check out the Torre dei Lamberti (a medieval bell-tower) or the Piazza delle Erbe (a market). Venice is about 45 minutes away by train or car, and this aquatic city is a worthwhile trip. If you go at the right time you can see all the incredible art from around the world at the Venice Biennale. Otherwise, visit the Peggy Guggenheim museum for a load of modern art.
