Mumbai Information

About Mumbai

Mumbai is the capital of Maharashtra, India. From exploring caves and going on a safari to riding the rides at India’s largest amusement park, Mumbai is a bustling city with something for everyone in the family to do. Mumbai has many downtown apartment rentals for you to choose from and is also in close proximity to other major Indian cities, including Pune and Nashik.

Things to Do in Mumbai

As a large city, Mumbai has plenty to do, ranging from bars to authentic restaurants, to concerts and amusement parks. Mumbai is home to India’s largest amusement park, which is called EsselWorld. For a good concert, try going to a venue called Blue Frog, which hosts a range of musicians including T-Pain. For nightlife, go to the Aer rooftop bar at the Four Seasons Hotel Mumbai. From the roof you can see the skyline and the Sea Link bridge. Mumbai also has plenty of restaurants to choose from. For vegetarian dishes, check out Prashant Caterers or Govinda’s Restaurant. For gourmet food, try eating at San-Qi or Umame. If you want to explore the outdoors, make sure to visit the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. At the park you can go on a lion and tiger safari, explore the Kanheri Caves, and see over 170 species of butterflies and 274 species of birds.

Day Trips Near Mumbai

India is a huge country with so many places to explore. You can drive to the city of Pune, which is about two and a half hours away, for a day trip. Pune is known as cultural hub of Maharashtra and is a mixture of traditional culture with modern buildings. Pune is near several caves that you can explore, including Karla and Bhaja, which feature ancient carvings on their walls. You can also visit the Katraj Snake Farm in Pune, where you can bravely put a snake on your neck. Another fun day trip you can take is to Nashik, India, which is also about two and a half hours from Mumbai by car, depending on traffic conditions. In Nashik you can explore the Coin Museum, the 2,000 year old Pandavleni caves, and the Muktidham Temple.

Transportation in Mumbai

Since Mumbai is rather heavily congested, utilizing public transportation while you’re vacationing is probably your best option. The Mumbai Suburban Railway has three train lines, which include the Harbor Line, Central Main Line, and the Western Line. The Mumbai trains have both first and second class seating options. Alternatively, you can take a BEST, or Bombay Electric Supply and Transport Company, double-decker bus. If you don’t feel like figuring out the train and bus routes, there are also plenty of taxis in Mumbai. However, since there is so much traffic on the streets taking a taxi may take longer.
