An hour and a half on public transportation will get you to the larger town of Emden nearby to Greetsiel. Emden has more of a city vibe than Greetsiel that seems very idyllic and secluded. While Emden itself still seems far away from the hubs of Germany, it has a wonderful modern art museum. The museum is closed on Mondays, but offers a surprisingly comprehensive collection of contemporary art with temporary exhibitions also. Bremen is further away at an hour and a half car journey, however the city is much more central. The beautiful town hall is Gothic and ornamented, with a Renaissance facade and large model ships on display. Near the town hall are the famous representations of the Bremen Town Musicians cast in bronze. The Roland statue, a symbol of trading rights, freedom and liberty is also on display nearby.
