Rien a redire.
The house is super comfortable. Attention, on arrival and departure, was excellent and loving. All the time he kept in touch with us and helped us when we needed something.
The neighborhood is very quiet and beautiful. You can walk and see history in its buildings.
We recommend, we made a great choice.Kakuna We miss you!
I spent thanks giving at the apartment with friends, it was clean, nice and homy. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is fully equipped. The host was very nice and helpful, they even left eggs, bread, butter, milk and orange juices. The subway station was literally steps away, too, so you get to experience the richness of Harlem while easily having access to transportation all the way to down town. Definitely would recommend.
My mother and I stayed in this apartment for three nights recently and had the best time. It is clean, well-furnished and excellently placed for all transport links into the city centre as well as for exploring Harlem.
The owner is really friendly and welcoming and even provided fresh juice, milk, cereals etc on arrival. Towels, bedding and plenty of toiletries all provided.
All in all a perfect rental for a short NY break. Highly recommended.
Beautiful well located apartment with wonderful hosts. Will definitely stay here again on our next visit to New York. Absolutely loved it!
This amazing Harlem apartment was a brilliant find and excellent value for money. Located just north of Central Park and a 2 minute walk from the nearest Metro station, it was an ideal base for our 10 day visit to New York.
Spacious and extremely well appointed, it had everything and more for a comfortable and stylish stay. Much more economical and convenient than staying in a hotel, Kakuna and her family are also incredibly welcoming and gracious.
I would heartily recommend staying here and will definitely book again if returning to New York.
I can't say enough good things about this apartment. It's just lovely! Bright, sunny, modern and so clean, perfect for a large family. We had 5 people total and we were very comfortable. Bedrooms are gorgeous, kitchen perfect & modern. Our host had cereal, fruit and juice already in the kitchen so we didn't have to run out for breakfast the next day. She gave us amazing suggestions for eating out, and the subway was literally steps away. We took the subway all over Manhattan. We loved this apartment, and can't' wait to go back!
Thank you Kakuna we had a blast!
Perfect location for direct access to subway at end of the street to take you anywhere in the city you need to go. Apartment was fully furnished with everything from shampoo, to umbrellas in case it rained, washer and dryer, even orange juice, milk and butter, and coffee! Really felt like i was at home and not some hotel, and the price was cheaper then most hotels in the area! Beautiful kitchen and bathroom, nice private bedrooms and extra day bed for 5th adult. Apartment is on the third floor so not recommended for elderly or those having a hard time climbing a lot of stairs, but NYC in general would be hard for anyone who couldn't walk stairs really. The neighborhood was nice and clean and I felt safe the whole time, no trouble at all even at late hours of the night walking outside. Kakuna is very friendly and helpful with questions or directing you around the city. Would love to stay here again!
This apt. more than exceeded out expectations. It is clean, spacious, quiet and comfortable. Kakuna was a kind and attentive host and helped us feel comfortable and well taken care of.
My family from France was visiting me for 2 weeks so I decided to bring them to New York for one of them. Well, that was a really good idea! The host was really helpful with everything without asking any questions we already know all about New York in 15min! The neighborhood is not a "tourist thing" it's real and beautiful and the metro station is very clothe. If I come back to New York with friends I know were I'll sleep =)
PS: All my family congratulated me to find this apt!
My wife and I have been spending a month in NYC for the past 8 years. Until we discovered Kakuna and Fred's lovely apartment last year, we'd moved from place to place, never staying anywhere more than one month despite our goal of finding a single place we could return to year after year. While some of the other places were OK, we often found places that did not live up to the photos or descriptions. Kakuna and Fred's place completely exceeds expectations. This building was gut-renovated several years ago and is almost like moving into a new house, with a wonderfully historical exterior in a quiet (for NY) neighborhood. Several things to note: The bedrooms are in the back of the unit, so street noise is not a factor (perhaps it goes back to the horse and buggy days, but most NYC apartments have bedrooms overlooking the street--trust me, unless you sleep like Rip Van Winkle, you don't want that). This apartment has a washer, dryer and dishwasher--practically unheard of in a rental. In fact, we've never had either of those appliances in any rental until we came to this one. I could go on and on about how gracious Kakuna and Fred are as hosts, but I'll let you read the other reviews which pretty much say it all. I love the easy access to the subway (if you know what you're doing and time it right, you can be in the theater district in 15-20 minutes). There's a great Whole Foods with wine shop just a few subway stops away and the usual assortment of local markets just a few minutes walk away. For the adventurous, there are numerous African, Caribbean and soul food restaurants in the area. HIghest recommendation!
Hotels, bed and breakfasts, My husband and I had done that so opted for an apartment in New York. Kakuna supplied perfect instructions on how to get to her place, After a misunderstanding with the cleaning lady about which place we were staying in ( there is also a studio apartment downstairs) we loved our quiet street and enjoyed being a 'local'
Recommended eating places and supermarkets were handy along with details all, about the subway and we used the subway map supplied before getting our own. The station is a two minute walk and we were in downtown in about 25 mins. The first morning we opened the door to find bread, butter milk and orange juice for our use. Everything was clean and we had no trouble with noise. Would recommend this to anyone.
I know vacation rentals in NYC are controversial, and consensus on the web seems to be: Don't, it's too risky. I'm here to say it can be done, just do your homework first. This place was way above expectations. Four adults and a child were able to stay here at less than half of what it would cost for a couple low budget hotel rooms in mid-town. The owner could not have been more friendly or responsive, we emailed & texted each other repeatedly. She was full of advice about what to do, where to eat, how to get there, etc. She made the process of booking, and checking in and out very easy. She went above and beyond, like leaving food for our arrival, or sending out our laundry as the washer was broken. It was like staying with a friend. The unit was very nice, the kitchen and bath were newly remodeled. It was roomy enough that on our last night there, we cooked dinner & had a small party with 13 people in the living room at one point! The building and street were beautiful and historic, clean, fairly quiet, and safe. Great trees! One night my wife and I sat on stoop, had a glass of wine and the only other people we saw were hustling back and forth to the subway. It was a 1/2 block to the subway, and from there, quick cheap and easy to get anywhere in Manhattan. One caveat is that not everyone will be comfortable walking around in Harlem, especially at night, though you probably need to take it block by block. On some of the other streets, we encountered some people who were loud and profane, but we never felt threatened or unsafe. That being said, if you don't want to go out to a Harlem restaurant or club at night, you can safely walk to or from the subway even late in the evening. Or take a cab. Between the low rates, the close-by subway, and eating in, the savings just piled up. We were able to do the near impossible - Manhattan on a budget!
