For many travelers, their smart phone is their best friend. Thanks to these handy devices, you no longer have to carry a map to navigate a city or pre-plan every bit of your vacation. Using a top travel or city guide app can help you make the most of your travels, as they allow you to discover the best restaurants, attractions, bars, shopping and more all at the touch of a button. Here are five of the best city guide apps to download on your smart phone before heading on vacation.
Best City Guide Apps
1. TripAdvisor App (Free)
TripAdvisor is one of the best apps to have on your phone - period. As one of the most popular and top rated websites on the Internet for guides through various cities, countries and other tourist areas, TripAdvisor offers information on everything you need to know for any trip you want to take with plenty of reviews for each hotel, restaurant, bar, local attractions and more. All of that is compiled in this super helpful app that can give you walking map guides, user reviews on everything, suggestions on where to go, and more. You can plan your entire trip out or do it all on the go with this great smart phone app.
2. Gogobot (Free)
Gogobot is another great smart phone app for guiding you through your vacation. It has an extremely creative and user-friendly interface that is very easy to use. You can type in what city you’re in or going to and you’ll find suggestions on where to eat, drink, sleep, and go and more. The app offers great pictures of the top locations in each category, which helps you get a better idea overall. It also helps you evaluate pricing and shows the best deals around the city especially in terms of hotels. It doesn’t carry as many reviews as TripAdvisor, but its content and reviews from other users is extremely helpful in assisting you on creating the best possible vacation, or day in the city.
3. Triposo (Free)
Triposo is another great travel guide app and one of my favorites. What I really like about Triposo is that it offers content on things you need to know for the city of your choosing and displays the history and culture as well as content on practical information to know about each city that includes helpful guides. There are many subcategories offered from the “see and do” category and the “eat and drink” category, which allows you to really help narrow down where you want to go easier. Triposo is an extremely helpful guide app that can really help you map out you trip and is worth getting on your smartphone.
4. Tripomatic
Tripomatic is one of the best city guide apps for you to prepare and set you itinerary all on your phone with helpful maps, places to go, tours, restaurants, hotels, subway maps, car hire and more. If you’re a planner, Tripomatic is the app to get on your phone. When searching through its very expansive lists with descriptions and reviews of the aforementioned categories, you can click a button that puts it onto your itinerary into your trip guide. It’s an extremely helpful app that can guide you through your entire trip.
5. Foursquare
Foursquare is another must-have app on your phone. The best part abut Foursquare is that is contains probably the most information in the form of reviews and tips from locals than any other app. If you want extremely sound advice on where to go, what to do, where to eat, where to stay and how to really tour the city, Foursquare is an app you want to have to get that information. Foursquare is extremely helpful and very similar to TripAdvisor, but you definitely can get a better local feel on your trip with the helpful tips from Foursquare users.
6. Sidewalk (Free)
Sidewalk is an app that shares the local culture, history and food as you walk around a neighborhood. If you are not a planner, Sidewalk is the app for you. Open the app, select the walks that appeal to you and head out whenever you want. Sidewalk has something for every foodie, architecture-lover, Instagram celebrity and artist. Since the experience is self-guided, you don't feel like a tourist in a large group. The best part: each walk is created by a local expert, so you're getting authentic insight and personal recommendations in every city.
