HomeAway hosts can choose from five standardized cancellation policies that protect both guests and hosts.

Relaxed Cancellation Policy

For bookings cancelled up to 14 days before the start of the stay, traveler receives a 100% refund of payment. Home lister is not charged any booking fees.

For bookings cancelled up to 7 days before the start of the stay, traveler receives a 50% refund. Home lister is charged booking fees on any portion kept.

Moderate Cancellation Policy

For bookings cancelled up to 30 days before the start of the stay, traveler receives a 100% refund. Home lister is not charged any booking fees.

For bookings cancelled up to 14 days before the start of the stay, traveler receives a 50% refund. Home lister is charged booking fees on any portion kept.

Firm Cancellation Policy

For bookings cancelled up to 60 days before the start of the stay, traveler receives a 100% refund. Home lister not charged any booking fees.

For bookings cancelled up to 30 days before the start of the stay, traveler receives a 50% refund. Home lister is charged booking fees on any portion kept.

Strict Cancellation Policy

For bookings cancelled up to 60 days before the start of the stay, traveler receives a 100% refund. Home lister is not charged any booking fees.

No Refund Cancellation Policy

No refund offered.

FAQ For Travelers

HomeAway does not process refunds. Instead, travelers must settle the refunds with the property owner directly.

If the owner of the property pays the traveler via HomeAway Online Payments, it should take 5-7 business days for the money to be deposited in the traveler’s account.

If the owner uses HomeAway Online Payments, the payment should show up in the traveler’s account as coming from HomeAway, not the owner. This is also true of deposit returns. The traveler must arrange the deposit return with the owner, and the owner can choose to use HomeAway Online Payments to pay the traveler.

How to Cancel a Reservation on HomeAway

If you find yourself needing to cancel a reservation, follow these easy steps:

  • Log in to your account
  • If you have more than one listing, click on the listing you want to cancel
  • Select Reservations
  • Find the reservation you need to cancel click open the details
  • Scroll to bottom of page and click Cancel Reservation

How to Adjust Your Cancellation Policy

Log in to your account.

  • If you have more than one property, click on the one you want to edit.
  • Click Settings.
  • Click Rental Agreement and Cancellation Policy.
  • Click Cancellation Policy and select the policy of choice.
  • Click Save.
