1. Downtown Loudonville

Located halfway between Columbus and Cleveland, Loudonville is a popular place to look for vacation rentals away from the city. The city is commonly known as the “Canoe Capital of Ohio” because of the many locations on the Mohican River that are optimal for water sports. There are plenty of restaurants that offer home cooking and other cuisines, or you can take a tour through the Cleo Redd Fisher Museum to learn about the history of the region.

2. Mohican State Park and Forest

The Mohican State Park is the perfect place for some outdoor activities. There are 13 miles of hiking trails and an additional 32 miles of trails at the nearby Mohican Memorial State Forest for mountain biking and cross-country skiing in the winter. The park has a gift shop and free high-speed Internet in case you need to check in with work. For those who love horses, bring your own and ride over the 22 miles of bridle trails or rent a horse at one of the local riding stables.

3. Powell, Ohio

Visit the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building Museum to view what life in Ohio was like during the Civil War. You can also tour the Shawshank Redemption Richland Carrousel Park, which offers free rides to children 12 and under. 6. Charles Mill Lake Park

9. Bellville

You can also visit the Kingswood Center Botanical Gardens to tour the historical prison and view the fountains, sculptures and various flowers and trees of the region.
