When you go to the lake on vacation, it’s almost guaranteed that you need to spend a day boating. Whether you have your own boat or rent one from a local outfit, you and your family can enjoy a day on the water. With a power boat, you can zip around the lake as the kids encourage you to go faster.

In nearby Tyler, Texas, you can dress up in camo and spend the day with your family at The Forest Adventure. This paintball center makes it home on the grounds of the former Camp Fannin and Army training center in the 1940s. This is a great place to go if you’re with your extended family — the more the merrier!

3. Enjoy a Day of Fishing

Lake Fork is one of the best lakes in which to enjoy a day of bass fishing. In fact, the lake plays host to many fishing tournaments. It’s possible that there is a tournament scheduled during your visit where you and the family can go out and watch or take part in the festivities.

4. Enjoy a Day at Lake Fork Country Club

If you or someone in your family enjoy golfing, then this is the place to hit the links during your lake vacation. This country club offers an 18-hole golf course with short links. This is a great place to take younger kids who want to learn or a family member who needs to improve her game.

5. Enjoy a Day Having a Picnic in the Park

Pack some simple sandwiches or a more substantial fried chicken meal and drive the family over to W.C. Swearingen Recreation Area. This area offers barbecue pits if you’d rather throw some steaks on the grill or plump up some hot dogs. While the adults enjoy some quiet time, the kids can play on the playground.

6. Enjoy a Day at Sulphur Springs Dairy Museum

A short drive from your lake hideaway, this museum gives your family a chance to learn more agriculture and farm life. While there, you and the kids can take a tour of the museum to learn more about the history and place of dairies in day-to-day life. After the tour, enjoy a meal at the local soda fountain.

7. Enjoy a Day of Tubing

If you have access to a power boat or rent one, the entire family can enjoy some time skimming the water on an inflated tube. Tie off a rope and drag the tube behind the boat. You want to make sure that each person wears a life jacket when it’s their turn.

8. Enjoy a Day at Eagle Fest

In the middle of winter, each year, you and the family can enjoy the bald eagle survey on Lake Fork. The counting of eagles happens on the lake while nearby Emory, Texas, hosts other events. You can enjoy an eagle watching barge tour and then visit the arts and crafts show with local food vendors.

9. Enjoy a Day of Shopping

While you’re relaxing on your lake vacation, you can take a day out of sun and fun to indulge in a little retail therapy. In Winnsboro and Quitman, you can check out the local antique and specialty stores to find something unique to take home as a souvenir. About 20 minutes from the lake is the VF Factory Mall where you can find some great deals.

10. Have a Romantic Dinner

Leave the kids with a babysitter and enjoy a romantic dinner with your other half. The area offers several local restaurants and many of them are close to the marinas. These places offer a variety of options but primarily fish and steak. It’s a great chance to see how the locals prepare fish fresh from the lake.
