1. Dover
As the capital of Delaware, Dover always has a huge Fourth of July celebration. If your vacation rental is in or near Dover, go downtown to Legislative Mall on the fourth. The parade goes along State Street. In addition, there are food and craft vendors and fireworks. You can even “adopt” a firework as a memorial for someone or just for fun.

2. Bethany Beach
Bethany Beach is having its 33rd Annual Independence Day Celebration on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. The parade through town includes marching bands, entertainment groups, bikes, and floats. There’s also a horseshoe throwing contest at 2 pm. Later in the day, you can watch the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast perform and then watch fireworks at dusk.

3. Newark
Held at the University of Delaware’s Athletic Complex, the city of Newark’s huge Independence Day celebration includes games and arts and crafts booths. There is also live music, which begins at 6 pm, and fireworks later that night. The rain date for the fireworks is July 5th. For parking, you can park for free at the University of Delaware Athletic Complex lots.

4. Lewes
Spending your Fourth of July in Lewes is a great option for families. There are outdoor kid games on Second Street starting at 9 am on July 4th. The Lewes Independence Day Boat Parade is after the games and goes down the Lewes-Rehbototh canal. At 5 pm there is another parade, called the Doo-Dah Parade, which is on the street.

5. Wilmington
A Fourth of July spent in Wilmington includes a carnival, live music, and even a blueberry pie eating contest. There are also a lot of competitive events such as a corn hole tournament, three on three basketball, and horseshoes. This year the celebration goes from Thursday, June 29th to Sunday, July 2nd.

6. Middletown
Middletown has an annual fireworks show in Silver Lake Park. The park opens at 6 pm and the fireworks are held at dusk. There are food vendors at the show and the town also has an annual parade. For the fireworks show, note that there is no alcohol, no bikes, and no pets allowed.
