With Love from Tripping: Events from Coast to Coast!
We have been quite busy off our computers these last couple weeks! That's right, we're getting social in the flesh and it has been so exciting to meet our members and work with incredible travel groups to make this happen! Here's what we've been up to lately....
Travel Story Throwdown - NYC
Last week, we co-hosted the first Travel Story Throwdown in New York City with Hostelling International, Wandrian Adventures and Eastern Mountain Sports. The idea is pretty simple - anyone can tell a story as long as it's travel-related and shorter than seven minutes. The crowd and a panel of judges pick the best story, and the winner gets a prize from one of our sponsors and the glory of being named a Throwdown champion. The host was NYC-based comedian Carolina Hidalgo, and the headliners included Brook Silva-Braga, award-winning documentary filmmaker of " A Map for Saturday" Kenneth Wright of Onsite Wellness, and Grant Lingel of The Hostel Life.
"The goal of the Travel Story Throwdown is to have fun and share stories," says Anthony Sodd of Hostelling International - New York City. "Traveling is awesome, and we all have those time of 'Oh man, I was in Thailand when...' We want to encourage folks to tell their stories and inspire people to get on the road, put yourself out there and come back and share. Plus, how can travel stories and a few drinks not be fun for a night?"
The next Throwdown will be in New York City on May 14th. If you're in town, definitely plan to come out to either listen to the stories of fellow travelers or come share one of your own! Thank you to those who helped make this event such a success.
Tripping Happy Hour - SF
We are so thrilled to announce that our first ever West Coast event was a success! We held an extended happy hour at the beloved Hi Dive on Pier 28 of San Francisco's embarcadero. Attendees enjoyed food and drink and shared their passion for travel as the sun set over the bay. Included within the almost 100 attendees, were Tripping members, bar goers who happened to love what we're doing (go figure!), techies and travel start-up friends, travel industry pros, and travelers! We had visitors all the way from Melbourne, Australia pop in for a pint. Talk about a diverse crowd!
Not only were there great travel stories swapped, business cards exchanged, and new friendships made, but all the while people were throwing in donations for Hands for Japan. All in all, a great night! Thank you to the friendly folks at the Hi Dive, everyone who contributed to the raffle, and all who came. Stay tuned for more fun on the West Coast!
Tripping Happy Hour - NYC
The fun continues TONIGHT! Come join us, The Hostel Life, and Hostelling International for some more good times at The Grisly Pear! We'll see you there!
Cheers!
