Living Abroad Broadens Your Mind & Your Resume
It's long been known that traveling and living abroad have profound and lasting effects on the way we view the world and interact with others, but how do we communicate our time abroad as meaningful experiences in the "real-world?" The Havard Business Review recently highlighted several studies that demonstrate exactly how these experiences can contribute to professional development. In several studies, researchers found that living and traveling abroad fosters higher levels of creativity in problem solving situations (interestingly, this was most pronounced in individuals who made a concentrated effort to adapt to life in their host countries). In addition, those individuals having bicultural backgrounds (people who incorporate two cultures into their personal identities) were more likely to have better professional reputations and were also more likely to get promoted faster in their companies. pagebreakSo what are you waiting for? Not only is travel and living abroad good for the soul and for broadening your mind, but it can also help you achieve your goals in the professional world.
