Inauguration week is an exciting and busy time in the nation’s capital. If you’re going to be in DC during inauguration and with a large group of friends or family, it’s definitely a good idea to start figuring out your plans early. Here are Tripping.com’s suggestions for how to book a stay for a large group in Washington DC.
Where To Stay In D.C. For Inauguration Weekend
Find The Right Neighborhood In D.C.
The first step to planning your trip is determining which neighborhood of DC you want to stay in. DC has a wide variety of neighborhoods, whether you want to be downtown by the restaurants and shopping districts, close to some of the famous political monuments, or in the quieter suburbs of the city.
Search for rentals in the downtown area to be close to popular historic sites, such as the Lincoln Memorial, International Spy Museum, and the National Air and Space Museum. Another neighborhood with historic attracts is Georgetown. In Georgetown you can go on a Washington Monuments Cruise to see the Jefferson Memorial and the Washington Monument. If you want to be within walking distance of Capitol Hill, stay in Eastern Market.
What Kinds Of Places To Stay In
After you decide where to stay, the next decision is whether you would rather stay in a hotel or a vacation rental. DC has a multitude of hotels to choose from. Choose a hotel for the inauguration if you are looking to have lots of amenities, such as a gym, pool, bar, and restaurants right in the same building. For example, you could stay in a five star hotel such as The Jefferson, which has a 24-hour butler, spa, and a luxurious 1920s feel. Another popular five star hotel is The Hay-Adams, which has beautiful rooms with views of the White House.
If you aren’t going to be spending that much time in the hotel, it might be better to get a vacation rental instead, since you won’t be paying for extra amenities that you won’t be using. However, depending on how large your group is, you may not be able to find a vacation rental large enough or close enough to the inauguration. In that case, a hotel would be better because you can all stay in adjacent rooms and be right downtown. Staying in a hotel downtown means that you won’t have to spend as much time stuck in traffic trying to drive into the city or on public transportation.
On the other hand, staying in your own vacation rental with a large group allows you to have more space and more privacy. Make sure to pay attention to how close rental homes are to public transportation if you won’t have a rental car.
