Things to Do in San Francisco

San Francisco has many famous landmarks. Here are a few of our favorites: Alcatraz Island, site of the infamous former federal penitentiary, is a must-see. It's accessible by ferry and open for tours every day except Christmas, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving. The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the world's most iconic landmarks and every bit as impressive in person as it is in photos. San Francisco's Chinatown is the oldest Chinatown in North America and the largest Chinese community outside of Asia. From the elderly people doing tai chi in the parks to the colorful shops selling fun souvenirs, Chinatown definitely merits exploring. If you enjoy public parks visit Golden Gate Park, the third most visited park in the U.S. It has miles of paths for you to wander along the grass and lakes. Also, it is home to a number of popular attractions, including the California Academy of Sciences, the deYoung Museum and the Conservatory of Flowers. And what trip to San Francisco could be complete without a visit to Haight Ashbury? Best Neighborhoods to Stay in When You Visit San Francisco

Sunset District

Bordered by Golden Gate Park to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the west, Sunset District is the largest neighborhood in San Francisco. Though it is a bit of a trek from the city center, it has enough attractions on its own to keep visitors occupied. Hike to the top of Mount Sutro, 900 feet above sea level, to get lost among the old-growth eucalyptus trees and see the city from above.

Russian Hill

This neighborhood is the home of, supposedly, “the crookedest street in the world.” Lombard Street attracts an estimated 6000 visitors per day during the summer, making it one of San Francisco’s top tourist attractions. However, there is much more to this city than this quirky landmark. There is a rich tradition of culture and architecture here, such as the elegant Grace Cathedral which was modeled after Paris’ Notre Dame, and Shakris Fine Asian Works of Art.

North Beach

North Beach combines the hearts of Little Italy and Chinatown, making it a diverse neighborhood with numerous opportunities for delicious dining. This neighborhood is easily walkable, so you don’t have to fight the San Francisco traffic to see its many attractions.
