Just a short drive east of Los Angeles and an outdoor oasis locals flock to in every season of the year, Lake Arrowhead is a scenic mountain town in the San Bernardino Mountains. Many come to escape the city and enjoy the natural beauty of the lake and its many accommodations and activities. The lake was formerly known as “Little Bear Lake”, since it was smaller than nearby Big Bear Lake, but the Arrowhead Lake Company purchased the land and lake and renamed it Lake Arrowhead. If you want that small, mountain town feel with lots of activities to keep you busy, head to Lake Arrowhead!
Outdoor activities provide tourists with the opportunity to get back in touch with nature. In the winter, Snow Valley offers snow bunnies plenty of mountains to shred down on skis, snowboards, or even tubes. The Hub, a pub at the base of The Edge, the mountain’s terrain park, has a great outdoor deck to enjoy a drink or a quick bite before heading back out to the slopes. There are many hiking trails in the San Bernardino Mountains, a National Forest, and there’s even a trail that runs along the perimeter of Lake Arrowhead. Water ski in the lake and enjoy a unique view of the little mountain town from the water, or lounge on the sandy shores and take a break from all the activity. Fishing, hang gliding, and paragliding are all options in Lake Arrowhead, and rock climbing, mountain biking trails and off-roading can be done in the land surrounding it.
If you’re looking for a little peace and quiet to recharge your batteries, Lake Arrowhead is just the place for you. Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa is an upscale resort with a spa, heated outdoor poor, and a cocktail lounge. Their spa is one of the best in town and you’ll be relaxed as soon as you enter one of the spa’s ten private treatment rooms. Make reservations, as this place gets booked up pretty quickly! After you’ve been pampered, head out to the village where you’ll find bars, restaurants, and shops to explore. The Lakefront Taproom Bar and Kitchen is known for their awesome view of the lake (both inside and outside on their deck), sweet potato tater tots, and build-your-own burgers. You have to check this place out! Shoppers will love the outlets Lake Arrowhead has to offer—everything from Pendleton to Coach. Enjoy a day exploring all the shops!
Take a short 5-minute drive to Skyforest and you’ll arrive at SkyPark at Santa’s Village. This park was built in 1955, and opened just six weeks before Disneyland. It was inspired by a newspaper article about a similar park in New Hampshire. After being destroyed by wildfires in the early 2000s, it has been newly remodeled to include a Polar Express Train ride, Santa’s house, a climbing tower, and much more. Celebrate the holidays at the park, enjoy cookie decorating, ice skating, and an appearance by Santa himself. When you’re ready to move on, drive southeast for another 40 minutes and arrive at Big Bear Lake. This mountain town is a big bigger than Lake Arrowhead and has an incredible Oktoberfest every year. It also has a bustling nightlife, so if you’re in the mood for an evening out, check out their downtown area. Big Bear is also home to Bear Mountain, a ski resort with some great ski and snowboard runs. With both places being so close to lake Arrowhead, you could definitely make a stop at both on your day trip!
