Things to Do in Granada

There are many famous buildings in Granada, including the Alhambra, which is the oldest preserved Moorish palace. The Granada Cathedral was the first renaissance church built in Spain, making it one of the most important monuments in the country. The Royal Chapel is where the Catholic monarchs have been buried, and the Banuelo dates back to the 11th century, making it one of the oldest and best preserved Arab public baths in Spain. Other famous buildings to visit include Cartuja Monastery, Santo Domingo Church, and The Madraza—the first Arab university in Granada. Stroll through the stunning gardens of Generalife, which was the summer residence of the Nazrid kings. Go shopping on busy Alcaiceria Street, which is part of the former Arab Market and has a wide selection of souvenirs and shops. Don’t forget to check out Plaza Nueva, which was a center point of town life in Granada where many tournaments and bull running events have taken place. The Triunfo Gardens are of historical importance and light up the evening sky with colored fountains, not to mention that they are in close proximity to the Monument to the Virgin and the Royal Hospital, which are two beautiful buildings.

Day Trips Near Granada

There are many great places to visit that are near Granada, which make for great day trips. Nerja in Malaga is just over an hour away and is where the underground Caves of Nerja are located, as well as beautiful beaches. Malaga City is 90 minutes by car and is where the Picasso Museum and Gibralfaro Castle are located. Other charming towns that are just over an hour by car include Prego de Cordoba, which has beautiful flowered streets and panoramic views, as well as Alpujarra Granada, home to various cute villages, local crafts and open-roof restaurants.
