Things to Do in Tagaytay

Taal Lake is a freshwater lake (formerly known as Bombon Lake), and is a must-see for visitors. It occupies a volcanic crater and is 15 miles wide, offering breathtaking scenery, backpacking opportunities, and volcanoes to explore. Taal Volcano is also located at Taal Lake, and is part of a volcano chain along Luzon. Despite being the smallest active volcano in the world, Taal Volcano has erupted more than 30 times since the 16th century. Another popular spot for visitors is People’s Park—a historical urban park that was converted from the unfinished mansion of former President Ferdinand Marcos. St. Anne’s Shrine is a small garden where a grotto of the Virgin Mary stands, as well as the Mabini Shrine, which houses the remains and personal belongings of late revolutionary hero Apolinario Mabini. Punta de Santiago Lighthouse was built in 1890 and is one of the earliest lighthouses that remains functional to this day. Other landmarks to visit include Case de Segunda Katigbak, the ancestral home of the prominent Batangas family; Jose P. Lauren Memorial Library, which is a historical site and public library; as well as the birthplace of Marcela N. Agoncillo, who was the maker of the first official Filipino flag during the Philippine revolution against the Spanish.

The capital of Manila is just under two hours away by car, and is where many churches, parks, and museums are located, along with the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The city of Batangas is one and a half hours from Tagaytay, and is home to a volcano within a lake, centuries-old churches, as well as great food and beach front hotels. The City of San Pablo is one of the country’s oldest cities and is less than an hour away by car or taxi.
