This is a charming 150 year old 3-bedroomed gite in a quiet street in the centre of the ville. It has a lovely courtyard garden with a sun terrace, where you can look over the rolling hillside. There is wifi, satellite TV, and free landline calls worldwide. There is a good sized salon with comfy seating for 7 people. There is one bedroom on the first floor, next to the bathroom and there are two bedrooms on the second floor, but the stairs could be a bit tricky for small children and elderly people. There is a toilet and separate shower room downstairs

Vermenton has everything you need - butchers and bakers, bars and restaurants. The supermarket is especially good - it sells local wines and has an extensive butchers section using locally-reared animals - and it's within easy walking distance

Local activities include horse riding, kayaking/canoeing, coarse fishing, cycling, hiking / walking, rock climbing and swimming. Burgundy is famous for its wines - there are plenty of opportunities for wine tasting within 20km - Chablis, Cote d'Auxerre, Irancy, Caves de Bailly. The countryside is beautiful with the vineyards and there are lovely medieval towns worth visiting such as Auxerre, Avallon and Vezelay. The Parc du Morvan Nature Reserve is within 30km

The River Cure runs through the village. There is a designated swimming area with a little sandy beach -  ideal for all ages as the riverbed has a gentle incline. There is a grassy play area with playground equipment behind and paddleboats in the summer

The house is very close to a category 2 river, and lots of locals are anglers with the AAPPMA. Fishing is in the River Cure and the Canal de Nivernais between Cravant and Arcy-sur-Cure, running through Vermenton, within walking distance in the beautiful setting of the Parc des Isles - pike, perch, eel, carp, roach, brown and rainbow trout and zander. Permits cost 10 euros per person per day or 30 euros for a week, child (under 12) prices are 3 euros per day or 18 euros per week. You need to apply the day before, with two passport sized photographs and the permits are available from the Maison de la Presse on the main road

A little way along the river bank is the Port, where you can take a stroll and look at the boats. The Parc des Iles by the river Cure is a lovely park - good for a picnic or fishing. The beautiful Cistercian Abbey of Reigny is set alongside the river Cure and forested hillside - concerts and weddings are held there. The village owes its prosperity in former times from vineyards and timber-floating along the River Cure. On Friday mornings there is a lively vegetable, meat and dairy produce market
