Okoboji is a small town on the east shore of the West Okoboji Lake, a little over 10 miles the Iowa-Minnesota border. It is nestled in the northwest corner of Iowa and is part of the Iowa Great Lakes region which includes six natural lakes covering over 12,000 acres. Lake Okoboji is a blue water lake, meaning on a clear, blue summer day the lake will sparkle and shine. Okoboji is a great place to enjoy some water sports, hang out on the shore, or take a 10-minute drive to an amusement park along the water. Things to do in Okoboji

With the cool, blue lake just steps away from the shores of Okoboji, what better way to spend your vacation than taking in some rays out on the water. Located in Marina Park in Okoboji, Barefoot Bar usually has an in-house band playing and plenty of seating out on the deck overlooking the marina. The tiki huts in place of traditional bathrooms, palm trees, and a lakeside slide and playground for the kids make it one of the best places to begin or end your night.

Pike’s Point State Park is located within Okoboji’s town limits and is great place to set up camp or simply enjoy the outdoors. A neat component of the park is the picnic shelter that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its rustic architecture and use of natural, surrounding materials in its construction. It’s definitely worth a trip to this park, just bring your camera for some photos.

Next door to Okoboji is the town of Arnolds Park, a local hotspot. It’s not just locals who love this place, visitors come from all over the Midwest to experience fireworks over the water, and a Ferris Wheel that illuminates the warm, summer skies to name a few attractions. It’s also home to one of the oldest wooden roller coasters in the world. Built in 1930, the Legend Roller Coaster has since been renovated so visitors can experience a smoother ride on the track.
