Information about Kincardine

About Kincardine

Kincardine, a community of 6,000 residents, is located on the shores of Lake Huron in the province of Ontario. The town was founded in 1848 as Penetangore, sharing a name with the river it bordered, but was later changed to Kincardine in 1858 and amalgamated into a municipality in 1999. A pair of Scottish and English brothers-in-law founded the town, which explains the lasting Scottish influence. Kincardine was also the founding place of the Bruce Municipal Telephone Company since Alexander Graham Bell was not interested in providing service to rural communities. Today, residents and visitors enjoy warm summers on Kincardine’s sandy beaches and many historic sites.
