The Neighborhood:
One of the closest beaches is in the authentic and pretty village of Afissos less than three kilometers from the house. Afissos has many restaurants, taverns, and cafes all within three-kilometers of the house. The town offers narrow streets and pretty village square. Today, the village stands on the site of where the ancient town of Afetos once stood and where legendary Jason and the Argonauts are said to have once stopped for water
Drive a bit further (one hour), and you are in the equally beautiful town of Hania, Pelion, famed for its food and winter sports at the Centaurs Mountain Ski Resort

Pelion:

Steeped in ancient Greek mythology, Mount Pelion is associated with the legend of the Centaurus (half human, half horse). The views from around the mountain across the gulf are stunning and teeming with natural beauty
Some of the areas most charming and picturesque villages include Makrinitsa, Chania, Portaria, and Tsagarada. While Makrinitsa and Portaria are very touristy, they are well worth a visit for their views over the majestic Pagasetic Gulf
