There is also a huge network of hiking trails that encircle the lake and ridge of the Basin. The Snowshoe Bike Park has nearly 40 trails and 1,500 vertical feet of descent, and is has one of the largest trail systems in the East. Just about three hours east of Snowshoe lies Charlottesville, Virginia, home of the University of Virginia.
