Extending over a span of around 58,000 acres, Lake Barkley is a reservoir primarily spanning through several Kentucky counties as well as a couple of counties in the state of Tennessee. A popular fishing spot in Kentucky, this lake is where the state’s largest yellow bass was caught. The origin of Lake Barkley is similar to that of Kentucky Lake where in the 1960’s, unused communities were flooded to create these bodies of water. In 1966, when the Barkley Dam was completed, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers impounded Lake Barkley.
