About Santa Clara
Located 45 miles south of San Francisco, Santa Clara is named after Mission Santa Clara de Asís. The city is located in the center of Silicon Valley and is home to the headquarters of several large tech companies. It is also home to Santa Clara University, the oldest institution of higher learning in the state of California. Levi's Stadium, the home of the NFL's San Francisco 49ers, the site of Super Bowl 50, and the 2019 College Football Playoff title game, is also located in the city. It is close to San Jose, Sunnyvale, and Cupertino.
Things to do in Santa Clara
Santa Clara is also home to California's Great America, an amusement park popular with locals and visitors alike. The Santa Clara Convention Center is one of Silicon Valley's largest event and meeting venues. Santa Clara also has several museums including the Intel Museum, the Triton Museum of Art, and the Harris-Lass Historic House. The Our Lady of Peace Shrine is notable for its thirty-two foot tall statue, which is viewable from Highway 101. The Mission City Center for Performing Arts is the city's venue for theatrical productions and entertainment, and worth a visit during your stay. The San Francisco 49ers NFL football team has its headquarters and practice facilities in Santa Clara, so if you’re visiting during football season, plan to see a game. The city has also spent a lot of time and resources on developing its parks. Facilities include the Santa Clara Golf and Tennis Club, the Community Recreation Center, the Senior Center, the Youth Activity Center, an International Swim Center, Reed Street Dog Park, and a skate park. Ulistac Natural Area, a 40 acre open space park on the former Fairway Glen golf course, opened in 2001 and is a beautiful place for a walk. Santa Clara's 38 parks, playgrounds and open spaces now total nearly 450 acres of land for you to explore.
Day Trips from Santa Clara
Take Caltrain to San Francisco to explore the City by the Bay - but be aware that the temperature may be significantly cooler in the summer months! Eat in Chinatown after visiting the Golden Gate Bridge and taking a walk through Golden Gate Park. Don’t forget to ride a cable car and visit Fisherman’s Wharf.
Nature lovers will be thrilled to visit Yosemite National Park (four and a half hours away) or the Muir Woods (two hours away) and take marvel at the wonder of brilliantly-preserved natural environments. There is also a light rail system in Santa Clara and the rest of the county in case you'd like to take a break from driving - though be aware that this part of the Bay Area is not the most walkable.
