Just over the hill, less than an hour away, make your way to the beach. To the north of Palo Alto, you have Half Moon Bay and San Gregorio State Beach. To the south, you also have Santa Cruz and Capitola. Spend the day lounging on the sand or play a game of beach volleyball.

The gardens and estate are open from early February through October, with a weeklong holiday after Thanksgiving, so plan accordingly. The estate is west of Redwood City and about a 15 minute drive north on Interstate 280.
