There are beautiful beach areas in La Jolla where you can soak up the sun and enjoy the waves of the Pacific Ocean. La Jolla Shores is probably the most popular spot in the area and is a great beach for walking. Located in north La Jolla, this beach has some of the gentlest waves of any beach in San Diego is is especially great for learning how to surf. The beach is also notable for being near the Scripps Institution of Oceanography campus and the home of the Scripps Pier. The La Jolla Cove is another very popular spot. You can enjoy swimming, scuba diving and snorkeling in this cove set against beautiful sea cliffs. The water is lovely here and you can spot orange Garibaldi fish swimming near you. The bluffs above the beach are grassy, making a great spot for picnics. The cove is part of the San Diego-La Jolla Underwater Park Ecological Reserve, so fishing, surfing and boogie boarding are not allowed. In the summer months, you may find many seals and sea lions lounging on the rocks around the cove as well, which is interesting to see. Windansea Beach is another great beach to visit in La Jolla, even though it doesn’t have any facilities. Other than the beaches, there are some great things to do in La Jolla as well.
