A visit to Quintana Roo is not complete without visiting one of the many Mayan ruins. The Mayan ruins of Chacchoben are very close to the town of Limones, west of Mahahual. This remote site is less traveled than some of the other nearby ruins, so much of the ruins are still intact. Some of the temple pyramids built by the Mayans after they settled in the area in 200 B.C. have been partially restored. This city was one of the last to be built by the Mayans so the sites are incredibly preserved.
