Beautifully restored Liberty style villa in a village location near Lucca with 4 large bedrooms each of which can be configured as twin or double bedded rooms given prior notice. 2 bathrooms with showers only, no bath. Each shower has an alarm to summon help in case assistance is required. Each bedroom has a similar alarm. There is a dining kitchen and separate large sitting/dining room and a large elegant hallway. Kitchen has all modern appliances and is fully equipped and stocked with all basic foodstuffs and laundry and cleaning products. Villa is strictly no smoking, as there are fresco's on two of the ceilings, but there is ample outdoor space to smoke or on the small balcony adjacent to the front door. Garden is well maintained with a riot of colourful planters and has barbecue and various lounging, al fresco eating areas and a large outdoor private heated pool and sunbathing area with swing seat and loungers. We provide all linens and even pool and beach towels and cool boxes and plastic cups, plates etc. For picnicking in the nearby mountains or the beaches of Versilia, the Italian Riviera area which is a 30 minute drive from the villa. Pisa Airport is also around 30 minutes drive and Florence is under an hours drive. The villa is in a small village 10 minutes from Lucca centre and is a few minutes walk from the village square where there are all amenities including 2 banks a pharmacy various bars and eating places, a small mini market and a weekly open air market selling local produce and local ambulance station and doctors offices are also nearby. In the Summer there are often live bands and free concerts and dancing in the evenings in the square. The village is on a train and bus route if some guests wish to go different places from others on some days. The villa is well stocked with guide books, maps, games and books and local information packs. The villa will be cleaned to a very high standard for your arrival and a welcome pack waiting for you with some wine, soft drinks, water, fruit, milk and tea and coffee. The pool is cleaned and checked and the water tested every morning around 7am and the cover rolled back ready for your early morning swim and the whole pool area is often power washed and swept. There is an outdoor shower beside the pool for a quick rinse! The pool is open from mid March till early October and is heated as necessary. The owner has a private apartment on the lower ground floor with a separate entrance and patio area so you will not be disturbed and of course the guests have full private use of the pool and barbecue area where there is also an exercise bike and a table football game for your use. There is ample parking for two cars within the grounds of the villa and security is good as the local police office is next door. The housekeeper is Scottish and her husband who looks after the grounds is Italian and they will be often on hand, as will the owner if he is there, to help with any info you need or translate for you or indeed babysit or provide any extra cleaning you require. The villa is well situated for use as a base to see more of Tuscany and the surrounding area's and there are many local attractions, great golf courses, mountain walks, churches art galleries and museums a plenty as well as the beautiful city of Lucca itself with its walls and elegant buildings. If you check out Forbes Magazine on G. E you will see how highly they rate the city, they voted it the second most idyllic place to live in Europe. The house has a large screen television with a DVD player and some satellite news and entertainment channels and has free WiFi broadband connection. The villa has infants cots available and a high chair should you need it. There are insect nets on the inside of at least one window in every room so you can sleep with a window open in Summer if you wish. The villa has many unique features including differently designed hand made tiles on each floor in every room, Inside shutters are on every window all of which are chestnut wood as are all interior doors. Two of the rooms have fresco's on the ceilings which were hand painted in 1938 and restored 5 years ago. The main entrance has Carrera marble steps and marble columns and balustrade, and the kitchen floor is tiled in marble. The villa was built in 1938 and incorporates all the best of the artisans work of that period with the addition of modern plumbing and electrics for your comfort and convenience. For a time it was the home of the Mayor of Lucca, the city's highest official and with its spacious rooms it will offer plenty of space for 8 guests without anyone feeling crowded. The walled city of Lucca is a beautiful medieval city, which is the birthplace of Puccini. The city is mostly pedestrianised, which is fantastic for cycling and walking. We have four bicycles at the villa for the free use of our guests and there is a dedicated cycle path from the village into Lucca and the good news is that it is flat all the way there and back and is alongside the River Serchio so is well away from road traffic. The countryside north of Lucca is breathtaking with many medieval villages perched on wooded hillsides. There are many beautiful palazzos, spas and vineyards to visit in the area. In the Summer there are many musical events: Puccini operas at Torre del lago, whilst in Lucca, during July, several of the world's best musicians play in the amphitheatre. There are also several jazz festivals. There are many superb restaurants within 15 mins of the house. Fungi and truffles are some of the local specialities and olive oil from Lucca is famous the world over. One hour's drive north from the villa is the beautiful ski resort of Abetone in the Apuan alps. This is a very popular Winter playground with reasonably priced ski passes and suits all types from beginners to more daring skiers. Tuscany is the birthplace of the Renaissance with artists such as Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci both being born and working locally. Puccini was born in Lucca and wrote most of his music in the area and there are many smaller towns full of art and history dating back to the Etruscan civilisation and earlier. Tuscany is known for its varied landscape: mountains, seaside resorts, vineyards, olive groves. The Etruscan Archipelago along with the area known as Cinque Terre are within easy reach. Villa Reale, the home of Elisa, Napoleon's sister and Villa Mansi are a few miles away and well worth a visit. We are acutely aware that holidays should be relaxing and stress free and we have tried to cater for your needs and are always happy to hear of any special needs you may have so that we can try our best to cater to them and ensure you want to visit us again and to recommend the villa to your friends in the future Further details indoors The property has 4 double bedrooms with a combination of single and double beds, two bathrooms, each with wash basin, W. C, walk in shower and hot towel rail, mirrored cabinet with power point and a hairdryer. All the beds can be combined to make double beds or detached to make eight to suit your needs. Sleeping arrangements are highly flexible and cots can be arranged for two children if required in addition to the 8 guests. The main floor has been made into a comfortable holiday apartment. The architecture of the house, the beautifully decorated frescoes on the ceilings, the tiled floors, interior shutters and fittings reveal the highly skilled craftsmanship of pre-war Italy. The house is very spacious with 5 meter high ceilings throughout. A large living/dining room comes with with 3 three seater sofas, TV with DVD and Satellite. The dining area has a large table and will comfortably seat 8 to 10 people. All cooking utensils and crockery for 8 to 10 guests. The breakfasting kitchen which is also big enough for 8 seated is well equipped with basics such as soap powder, cleaning materials, most condiments and spices, sugar, paper towels, picnic icebox, napkins etc. And these are free for use by our guests. Further details outdoors There is ample parking for two/three cars within the grounds of the villa. A small balcony at the front of the villa has a table and a couple of chairs and provides refuge for any guests who wish to smoke as there is a strict ban on smoking in the house. There is ample exterior lighting and the garden has floodlights. The property has two sets of gates and is very easily secured with shutters on every window. At times the owner or his family is in his flat in the lower ground floor which has a seperate entrance and its own area so will not intrude on your privacy
