  • 4 bedrooms
  • 4 bathrooms

Description

The property, an ancient farmstead made of local tuff rock, situated 400 meters above sea level, has been slowly reshaped by the owners’ passion, becoming a tasteful contryside villa, a place inspiring rest and quiet. Villa Mellicata, immersed in the greenery of walnut trees, can hardly be seen from “Il Nastro Verde” the road leading from Sorrento to S. Agata sui Due Golfi, a small village set on the summit of one of the Lactarian Hills looking down on Sorrento and on the “Two Gulfs”, the bays of Naples and Salerno. A special atmosphere created by the the villa’s architecture, the timber ceilings and staircases, the well maintained outdoor areas resembling an enchanted garden. The friendly service, the genuine food, the farmer, all contributes to an environment evocative of times gone by. Mrs Rosa, the owner, is an expert of pleasure gardens, and she has carefully selected, in the years, ornamental plants and flowers for the villa’s garden, while maintaining the farming and agricultural vocation of these lands. Nowadays the farm produces organic fruits, vegetables, extra vergine olive oil, walnuts, hazelnuts, a great wine and much more. A pergola, roofed by grape plants, provides shade on the path leading to the Patio at the entrance of the villa; the external veranda is connected to the large living room characterized by the tuff brick walls and the ‘fresco’ paint work realized by master Saro Lo Turco. The couch, the curtains and the upholstery tailor made by Harrods in London blend nicely with the rustic-chic style of the house. All the pieces of furniture and paintings in the house have been hand picked by Mrs Rosa during her extensive travelling in France and among local artisans’ production. The villa consists of four bedrooms each with private bathroom. The large kitchen, fully furnished, combines traditional wood stoves with the lates Alpes Inox cooking equipment; the wall are decorated with hand painted tiles and antique copper pans. The small veranda by the kitchen overlooks the bay, and it is mostly used for cooking lessons. The old cellars with their tuff rock vaults are located on the lower floors allowing better preservation of the wines; the cellar has been carefully restored and it is divided in two areas, one of which is reserved for a valuable collection with presitigious wines and the best vintages; the other area contains the old oak barrels and it also used to complete the ageing of cured meats produced in the farm. The merging of the walnut trees, the wineyards, the lemon and olive groves into the gardens and then into the villa itself created a magical landscape where the greenery has been architecturally incorporated into the villa. The lawns stretch from the patio through to the gazebos’ area to the swimming pool and the solarium. The large marquee, a great iron wrought structure, connects the villa to the outdoor living room equipped with comfortable wicker furniture and used to dine ‘al fresco’, by the barbecue and the pizza oven. One area of the garden has become children friendly as the owners decided to build, under their grandchildren’s supervsion, a kids house and a tree house. The house is a small luxury villa made of tuff rock blocks and equipped with children furniture and accessories, it boasts balconies and a roof terrace. Together with house on the three, built with suistainable wood, this playground persuades children to switch their ipads off and get back to nature. Over the years, the villa, mostly used as the owners’ summer residence, has hosted illustrious names from politics, arts, and entertainment including Carla Fracci, the queen of Italian and international ballet, together with Carlo Menegatti; Alan Ford, former U. S. A president together with Peter Secchia, American ambassador in Italy; and Claudia Cardinale, the Italian actress together with movie director Pasquale Squitieri.
