South Shore Beach community; great for families

  • 3 bedrooms
  • 2 bathrooms

This beautifully appointed, charming gray shingled beach cottage faces east with distant views of the Atlantic Ocean. On a clear day, you can see Cuttyhunk Island from the second floor windows. You can walk, ride or drive to South Shore (Little Compton Town Beach) and Goosewing Beaches. Goosewing is considered one of New England's Top Ten beaches. Yankee Magazine recently named Little Compton one of New England's top beach communities. Walking to the beach takes about 10-15 minutes, riding a bike takes about 5 minutes (all downhill) and driving takes about 3. If you walk or ride a bike to the beach, there is no beach parking fee. However, if you drive, bring your home rental contract to the lifeguard shack to purchase a weekly beach parking pass for your car. Ferries to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket leave from New Bedford, Massachusetts, just 20 minutes away by car. New Bedford was the setting for Herman Melville's classic fish tale Moby Dick. All of our children grew up summering in Little Compton riding the waves and building sand castles at South Shore and Goosewing Beaches. We have boogie boards and coaster bikes for your use in the basement. Please note that we service all bikes immediately prior to the first week of summer rentals. After that, tire inflation and additional bike adjustments are on your own. You can also ride bikes to the center of town. There is a community center, library (for videos, free Internet, copy machines, books), a playground, basketball court, little restaurant, pizza parlor. Earle's gas station also offers dry cleaning and video rentals. We even have a larger general store--Wilbur's. We love the ice cream at Gray's in Tiverton (one town north), but you must drive there. Most of the beach houses in Little Compton do not have air conditioning but breezes are very frequent and we have ceiling fans throughout! We installed a gourmet kitchen in 2010! We reroofed and purchased new living/dining room rugs in 2011. In the winter of 2012, we renovated the two bathrooms: downstairs has a full bath with tub/shower combo; upstairs has a full bath with walk-in shower. In the fall of 2013, we installed an additional electric water heater for hotter water and better pressure. (The old water heater operated off the old plumbing system. ) We have a charcoal grill for your use in the backyard. ONE WEEK MINIMUM RENTAL beg. Last week of June through Labor Day week. Price: $2000 p/week. Keywords: Beach cottage with open layout and cool ocean breezes; gourmet kitchen; new spa bathrooms
