From Palmetto, you do not have to cross a bridge to reach I-75 and all points north and south

“Red Sky in the morning, sailor’s warning, red sky at nig, ht, sailor’s delight”
Sailor’s Delight sits on open water with a view across the Manatee River to Bradenton, yet provides protected harborage for your boat around the point on the north side of the property. Located in Palmetto, an “Old Florida” historic town just north of Bradenton and south of St. Petersburg, FL, this sophisticated home sits on a point where the water swirls past on a windy day and the sun dances on the surface broken by the dorsal fins of dolphins swimming nearby. An inlet curves around Sailor's Delight from the Manatee River, and the river is only a short distance from the Gulf of Mexico. Because the inlet has warmer water than the river, many fish congregate at the junction and as a result sea birds, pelicans, seagulls, ospreys among others, constantly fish just off the seawall. The viewing is spectacular. Sailor's offers 3 kayaks and 2 paddle-boards to launch off your own floating dock
If you sail in from the Gulf of Mexico, just at the mouth of Tampa Bay, you, your friends and family, (human and/or canine), can tie up at the new dock and step into a yard ringed with trees, including coconut, royal and cabbage palm, magnolia, two varieties of avocado, Meyer lemon, Persian lime, ruby red grapefruit, and navel orange. At the right time of year you can pick all these fruits and combine them for a delicious citrus and avocado salad
THE HOUSE: Inside the house, you make that salad in a fully equipped gourmet kitchen designed for the whole family to create culinary masterpieces together. Kitchen equipment includes brand new stainless steel appliances and fixtures, including double convection ovens; 36” induction cooktop with 36” hood; two separate sinks, each with its own dishwasher; two separate microwaves; through-the-door water/ice dispensing refrigerator/freezer; new white cabinets, granite countertops, and an island that accommodates small electric appliances, including blenders, toasters, toaster oven, food processor, crock pot, Keurig coffee maker, standard coffee pot and a teapot. The island also houses a wine cooler and provides seating for 6 people. A grill sits on the patio, for outdoor cooking to compliment dishes from the kitchen
As you sit in the kitchen sipping your morning coffee, perhaps watching the morning news on the 40” curved Ultra High Definition TV mounted on the wall near the induction cooktop, you look outside to see boats idling by, manatees mating off the dock (you should be at least 18 years old to witness some of these things), and small schools of dolphins charging through to catch mullet. A Brown Pelican, which was removed from from the Endangered Species List in 2009, dive-bombs a hapless fish, then glides away with a bulging beak
“What a wonderful bird is the Pelican, his beak can hold more than his belly can. ”
New this summer is a floating dock for kayak launches. We have three kayaks for your use, you may paddle kayaks just off the dock, and as you launch it, you may glimpse a Snook lurking under the dock, daring you to catch him, or see hundreds of rays swim by. An osprey sits atop the mast of my old sailboat as a cormorant, perched on a tie pole, spreads his wings to dry
The house itself contains three bdrms and two bathrooms. The master-bedroom has a king size bed, a 43 inch 4K Ultra High Definition TV, a bathroom with a shower and a walk-in closet. The 2nd bedroom has a queen size bed, TV, water views in two directions, and shares the main bath (which has a tub/shower) with the third bedroom, which has three bunk beds and also has a TV and water view. The bedrooms have spacious chests of drawers to store your belongings
The pet-friendly house itself is finished throughout with Travertine tiles and the back yard is fenced for your dog. Inside, you will find comfortable furniture and original art. Generous bright lighting throughout the house illuminates kitchen preparations and other activities. The bookshelf contains books, magazines, playing cards, a jigsaw puzzle, board games, dvds, music cds and a boom box, for a rainy day. The upright piano hopes it will be played, but if not, you may watch the 55” curved Ultra High Definnition TV mounted just above the piano
Outside, on the patio, you might try gyotaku, rubbings made with dead fish on rice paper. If you don’t catch a fish off the dock, you may buy one from the nearby Publix supermarket, and an art store just across the Green Bridge will sell you ink and rice-paper
Just off the patio is a salt water swimming pool which means there will be no chlorine and the water will be more pleasant, especially since it is also a heated pool with a heavy-duty heat pump to keep the water temperature comfortable even in January and February
Solar panels were installed in August to reduce our carbon footprint and electric bill. As Fall approaches, the citrus fruit and avocados in the yard will be ready to eat
You can arrange to rent a boat or have an excellent fishing captain pick you up at the dock in the back yard. Many fish are caught from the dock without going out on a boat. The inlet is full of mullets which are a favorite of the dolphins who fish there nearly every day
