The Loire Valley Castles: Amboise, cradle of Renaissance, is located in the heart of the Loire Valley Castles. The most famous and nearest are:
- the Chateau d’Amboise with its panorama over the Loire
- 12 km away from Amboise: Chenonceau, the famous 'Chateau des Dames' built on the Cher
- 35 km away: Blois
- Chambord, commissioned by Francis I with Leonardo da Vinci (that lived the last years of his life in Amboise, in the Clos Lucé)
- Cheverny, the castle that inspired Hergé for the Adventures of Tintin
And let's not forget the Chateau de Chaumont-sur-Loire, with its renowned 'Festival des Jardins' and the Chateau de Villandry, with its Renaissance gardens
A little getaway back to the Middle Ages is also possible in Montrichard and Loches
Other unusual visits: walks on the Cher or the Loire, canoeing or in a traditional boat, visit of troglodyte cellars with wine tasting, flying over the region or the Loire by plane or hot-air balloon, allowing also to discover and admire this region listed by the UNESCO
