Chalet in the Valley

  • 1 bedroom
  • 1 bathroom

Description

Nature-lovers will think it blissful to stay in this sunny, green and peaceful spot above the village of Moerel, which is almost screened out by varied shrubs and trees. Shops (and the local railway station) are reachable, though, in ten minutes on foot. The nearest provincial town, Brig (which gives access to Italy via the Simplon pass or tunnel) is ten minutes away by railway⎯the service is excellent. The chalet’s lower flat consists of a living-room (whose sofa can serve as a third single bed) with a bedroom (twin beds) on one side and a shower-room on the other. In front of the flat lie a paved terrace and grassed area in which to sit and enjoy the scenic landscape in privacy and tranquillity. Two cable-ways give easy access to the alps above, the whole area to the north being a UNESCO World Heritage site which includes Europe’s largest glacier and beautiful alpine forests. There is wonderful walking all around. In the snowy season, downhill and overland skiing are at hand. Paragliding is seen in and above the valley. On the other side of Brig, the region’s finest spa can be resorted to at will, and a hotel a stone’s throw from the flat offers therapeutic salt baths as well. But nature is the star attraction in this the sunniest valley in Switzerland (meaning 300 days of sunshine annually). The natural environment gives superabundant evidence of its flourishing here. The biodiversity is tremendous: wild flowers, butterflies, eagles, foxes, lizards, bats, cuckoos, chirping crickets, distant cow-bells, and happy songbirds⎯it’s all here for the delight of people ready to be charmed by these things
