Tavira Garden is a luxurious, mature, family-friendly holiday apartment rental complex in Tavira town, on the coast midway between Faro and Spanish border. 15 mins walk to old town centre, it’s an ideal location to explore the Tavira, the wonders of Ria Formosa Natural Park, the beaches of Tavira Island, the walled towns of the Guadiana Valley, the Algarvean Hills, the nearby golf courses, etc. It is 5km from the A22 motorway and 35 mins from Faro airport by taxi (transfer 2012 Euro 45, 00). Apt 15A is a large 2-bed, 2-bath duplex apartment certified by the local tourism licensing authority; it sleeps 4-6 guests (we have 4 apts in Tavira Garden, see www. Portugolf. Co. Uk). Front door opens directly onto gardens close to pool area and gym. Covered area is approx 120sqm/1300sqft with full air-con and entire floor area tiled. Balcony off lounge gets morning sun, ideal for breakfast. Off entrance lobby are dining room, kitchen. Steps lead down to lounge and up to bedrooms. Lounge and bedrooms are air-conditioned; other than kitchen, all windows are fitted with blackout curtains against the summer sun. Free WiFi Internet at Reception (weakly accessible in apt lounge), WiFi “HotSpot” GBP16, 00. Sat TV in all apts (BBC, ITV, Pt in all; D/Es/NL/F/Ös in three apts). Master bedroom has bathroom en suite, second bathroom beside twin bedroom. Access area is pedestrianised, ample safe parking close by on complex. Complex grounds, gardens, common areas well lit at night. Complex and Tavira town are relatively safe/secure. Wall safe with 3 to 8-digit electronic combination (your choice) is provided. Tavira Garden was built over a 10 year period from the mid nineties, the final buildings finished only a few years ago. Developed by a Swedish group, the complex stands stark white and commanding on a low hill in the suburbs of Tavira. The architecture is an expressionist rendition of the medieval Moorish style. The lush, mature gardens have palm, carob, olive, magnolia, bougainvillea trees, set off by lovingly tended shrubs and flowers. The complex favours families and those seeking a relaxing location from which to enjoy the sun, sand and sights of the Algarve or the magnificent golf courses, hills and countryside! Those seeking disco bars and lager louts may be disappointed (not only in the complex but in the town itself). There are approx 130 apartments (mostly 1- or 2-bed). The clientele is a polyglot mix of English, Irish, Scandinavians, French, Dutch and Germans and, of course, many Portuguese and Spaniards. English is, however, the business language of Tavira Garden and of the Algarve as a whole (Spanish, French, Dutch and German are strong runners). There are 2 adult pools (one is 20x10m), each with adjacent kids' pool, and 2 kids' play areas. Caribbean-style pool bar beside main pool adds spice to summer season and the restaurant stages regular BBQ parties with live entertainment. There is a comprehensively equipped gym (personal trainer available) and a tennis court; a boules court offers a gentler alternative. The gardens include communal BBQ and picnic facilities; loungers and umbrellas are provided in the pool areas. The Bistro allows on-site wining and dining while readily available and inexpensive taxis (2011 Euro 4, 00 within urban area) permit easy access to the restaurants of the old town (or a 15 min walk). We can arrange Car Rental at the airport or in town. Many visitors opt to walk or taxi most of the time and perhaps rent a car for a few days at the end of their stay to visit Seville or to explore locally (with free airport drop-off you save one airport transfer). There are several Bicycle Hire shops in town. During the summer, Tavira Town Council organises fairs, exhibitions, street theatre, folk music/ dancing, film festival, etc. The nearby Ilha da Tavira (Tavira Island) boasts 13km of some of the finest, whitest beaches in the Algarve (and a secluded nudist beach). Access is by ferry or water taxi from the town centre or from nearby Pedras del Rei on a rickety old train straight out of a kids' cartoon. Ria Formosa Natural Park surrounding Tavira is rich in flowers, birds, animals, butterflies, etc - you can just wander around or explore on horseback or bicycle. The Algarve Hills behind the town offer a wide variety of wild life and spectacular views - and you can even go swimming with the non-poisonous water snakes in Pego del Inferno! The old walled towns of the Guadiana valley (Mertola, Alcoutim, etc) testify to the ancient rivalry between Spain and Portugal and are 30 mins away by car – local buses also available. Express buses connect to Seville, a commuter train connects Twith the coastal towns from the Spanish border to the western tip of the Algarve. Supermarket 300m; Shopping centre (cinema, food hall, etc) 800m
