Calistoga is a small city in Napa County in Northern California sitting about 80 miles west of the state capital of Sacramento and 75 miles north of San Francisco. It has a population of just around 5,000 people, but the area has always been big for tourism given its location in Northern California wine country as well as its hot springs and unique geysers.

Calistoga’s main attraction is its wine. The castle opened its doors for visitors in 2007 and it’s a stunning piece of architecture with themes from the 12th and 13th centuries. It has 107 rooms on eight floors above and below ground. The castle has a moat, a drawbridge, defensive towers, an interior courtyard, a torture chamber, a chapel, a knights' chamber, and a 72 by 30-foot great hall. If you’re visiting the area, it’s a must-see attraction. The castle offers amazing guided tours and wine tastings as well. Other great attractions include the Petrified Forest where you can hike and look at all of the petrified trees and get great views of Mount St. Helena. You can also check out hot springs in the area as well as geysers including the famous Old Faithful Geyser of California.
