Toledo is about an hour drive from Madrid and is also accessible by public transportation from Madrid. In Toledo you can visit the Gothic style Cathedral and Alcázar, which was a Roman fortress. Another city that you should visit while staying in Madrid is Cuenca, which is about an hour and a half drive from Madrid. If you are traveling to Cuenca at a busy time of the day, it may take about two hours with traffic. In Cuenca you can visit the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art.
